      How it works

How to pick a random country

      1. Choose the list

All 195 countries, or one continent: Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America, or Oceania.

      2. Set how many

Draw one country or up to 100 at once. A single draw never repeats a country.

      3. Spin

With 195 entries the slices are thin and most labels are hidden, but the result card always shows the full name.

      4. Trim as you go

Delete countries you have already covered, or turn on No repeats to work through the whole list.

      Ideas

What a random country is good for

      Geography practice

Spin a country, then find it on a map, name its capital, or describe its flag.

      Cooking challenges

Spin a country and cook a dish from its cuisine for dinner this week.

      School projects

Give each student a random country for a report, with no repeats so nobody doubles up.

      Armchair travel

Spin for a place to read about, watch a documentary on, or add to your someday list.

      The list

Which countries are on the wheel

The full list has 195 countries: the 193 member states of the United Nations plus the two observer states, Vatican City and Palestine. Territories such as Greenland, Puerto Rico, and Hong Kong are not included, but you can type them in.

A few countries sit on two continents, so each one is placed on a single list. Russia is with Europe. Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan are with Asia. Cyprus is with Europe, Egypt is with Africa, and Central America and the Caribbean are part of North America. The continent lists hold Africa 54, Asia 47, Europe 45, North America 23, South America 12, Oceania 14 countries. If your class or game groups them differently, edit the list to match.

      FAQ

      Frequently asked questions

      Is every country equally likely?

Yes. Each country is one slice, and the pick uses crypto.getRandomValues with rejection sampling, so with the full list each country has exactly a 1 in 195 chance. Big countries do not get better odds.

Can I get a random country from just one continent?

Yes. Press a continent button to load only those countries. Europe has 45, Africa 54, and Asia 47. You can also delete any countries you want to leave out.

Can I draw several countries with no repeats?

Yes. Set How many countries to the number you need. One draw never repeats a country, and with No repeats turned on, picked countries stay out of later draws until you press Reset picked.

Can I put this wheel on my website or in Google Slides?

On a website, yes. Press Embed this wheel and copy the iframe code. Paste it anywhere that accepts HTML or embed code, such as a blog post, a Google Sites page, or a course page in a learning platform like Canvas, Moodle, or Schoology (some schools turn embeds off, so check with your admin if it does not show). The embedded wheel keeps the entries you had when you copied the code, and visitors spin it right on your page.

Google Slides does not accept iframe code, so the wheel cannot run inside a slide there. Copy the link code or the share link instead, add it to a slide, and click it while you present. Slide and whiteboard tools that accept embed code or a web address, and PowerPoint with a web viewer add-in, can show the live wheel.
